Buffalo County.
- East northeast of Gibbon. Octagon house. Built by William Nutter
in about 1890. Two story. At one time a porch surrounded the house.
There appears to have been a structure on the roof where a cupola would
typical be. Whether one could walk on the roof within what appears to be
a guard or railing is unclear.
As of year 2006 the house appears to be in substantial disrepair.
Photograph.
The two photographs below show the house probably not long after it was
constructed.
Photographic slide.

Douglas County
- Omaha. Octagon log house, built by Dr. Willard Richards in 1846.
Current status unknown.
Originally it was located in Winter Quarters, which is now part of Omaha, and located
in the northeast section of town. Perhaps inspired by reading of Orson
Fowler's book on phrenology. It is not clear exactly when Fowler began
spreading the notion of the virtues of octagonal houses, but 1846 would be
one of the earliest structures attributable to his movement.
