Boulder. Oxtagon house. Built 1907. Nothing else known. "Boulder Co. 821 Lincoln Pla. The house was built by brick mason Benjamin Franklin Gregg for Oliver and Mary DeMotte. Octagon-shaped two-story bric k dwelling with chiseled bricks at each corner. Low hipped roof; overhangin g eaves; and exposed rafters. Front shed roofed dormer with exposed rafters has louvered vents. Front entrance has semi- circular stone arch and pane led side-sights. To right of door is small window with leaded glass and stone lintel and sills. South of door is large semi-circular arched window with stone lintel and concrete sill. Some first story windows have leaded glass transoms. Second story windows are 1/1 light with stone sills. Basement level windows have segmental arches. Brick chimney. Stone foundation. Still standing."

Golden. Octagon house. Built in or before 1882. Located near Cheyenne Street. Arapahoe Street is in the area. A chimney or cupola appears on the top. Needs confirmation. A segment of an 1882 map of Golden shows the building at the center of the image.

Beulah. Octagon house. A summer house. Called Mikado, based on the Japanese influence. Based on the apparent age of the postcard shown below, the house was built in 1909 or before.

Laura Amman relates the following:

Beulah Col. It is still standing
It was built by Jack Marten(some spell it Martin) around the late 1880's-early 1890's.Apparently he traveled to Japan and admired that type of building.
It has been added on to, remodeled, went through the shag carpet of the 70's, but the main Octagon is still there.
Currently it is painted red and white. At one time it was dark green and white, but in my lifetime, that is what it always was.
It was unoccupied in the 50's and , as little kids we always snuck through the door and played in the house. We always thought it was unique and even "haunted" My friend bought the house in the 60's and had it until he sold it.It has had 2 more owners.

Laird. Octagon house. Built 1880 by Burton Durward Prentice (with wife, Idellah Knight). Located south of Highway 34, at the corner of Elkmont Street and Campbell Avenue. Built on the theory an octagon house would be able to withstand tornadoes better than a rectangular house, he was in fact substantially correct it seems today. Two story. Porch around entire house. Widow's walk. Constructed of stone. The owner as of 2009 is in the process of renovating the house.

Best estimates are that the photograph above was taken between 1880, when the house was built, and 1892, when a second photograph shows the vegetation has started to become more prominant.

Family photograph.

The photograph above of a family gathering at the house was probably taken in early spring, 1924. Number 31 is the home's builder, Burton Durward Prentice.

The following photographs were supplied by Durwood B. Darbin, and show the January, 2009, state of the house. It is now owned by the Caribou Cattle Company, in Boulder. The house appears to be empty today, suggesting that its condition will degrade rapidly.
